Do ride share drivers need special insurance?
Before getting started on this exciting new venture, it's important to remember that auto insurance is a critical and necessary component to consider before getting into the ride-sharing company. Unfortunately, a lack of knowledge is a primary reason why many people do not have proper ride-sharing insurance.
Your personal auto insurance will not cover any use for commercial purposes. There is an exclusion for any commercial use of your vehicle. There is a specific exclusion for "public or Livery conveyance" that is part of your policy. This makes it very clear that the liability coverage for your vehicle doesn't apply when it is being used as a public conveyance.
Rideshare insurance plans provide coverage for rideshare drivers who are exposed due to gaps in the rideshare company's policy. Most of these policies will also cover personal usage of your vehicle, as well as those dangerous gaps in coverage when you're on the clock but not protected.
When you purchase the correct form of ride-sharing insurance, you can rest confident that your corporate and personal insurance providers will never leave you out in the cold while on the job.
